About Joe

I am a laughter coach. I have survived and thrived through crises, triumphs and disasters in both my personal and professional life. With this experience I help you reconnect with your zest for life, and live life fully on your own terms.

I have 30 years experience in courses, conferences, team sessions, workshops, seminars, retreats, webinars, and one-to-one. My tool is zest for life. Whatever I do, I do it with energy, commitment and all my competence. These qualities underpin all my work.
My clients range from international blue-chip companies (such as Kraft, Novo Nordisk, Lloyds TSB, Continental Airlines), to universities and colleges (including Bristol, Dundee, U.W.E, Cheltenham Science Festival), to charities and the Healthcare sector (including Housing Associations, the NHS, Oxfam, NACTHPC), the very experiential end of the spectrum like Glastonbury Festival, and one-to-one.

My experience with the themes of leadership, teamwork and motivation stimulates engaged, resilient and high energy workplaces, where clients have good-natured, enthusiastic and results-focused teams.

Working one-to-one, people quickly find solutions during consultations, with full, immediate practical benefits.

In 2006 I set up the UK’s Laughter Facilitation course, to teach others how to use this material. In 2000 I co-authored ‘The Holistic Workspace’, and in 2012 co-authored ‘Awakening the Laughing Buddha within’ (with the Barefoot Doctor).

I was  a Director of the mould-breaking Pierian Centre in Bristol and am an occasional visiting lecturer at the University of the West of England in the fields of leadership, empowerment and health promotion. I also trained in ‘Laughter Yoga’ with Dr Madan Kataria, founder of laughter clubs international, and run regular nls: natural laughter skills sessions  for organisations and the general public.
My work regularly appears in the public eye, including BBC 2’s ‘Don’t Die Young’ with Dr Alice Roberts,  the Johnny Walker Show on Radio 2, Points West, BBC 1’s Inside Out, Discovery Health Channel, Radio 4, The Sunday Times, The Independent on Sunday, Nursing Times, Bristol Evening Post, among others.

In the late 1990’s I ran innovative stress management programmes for doctors, consultants, nurses and other health professionals, which were accredited by the BMA.

My initial career was in the forest industry where I learnt my conference, meetings and team skills. In 1992 I was awarded one of the UK’s first  ‘Centres of Excellence’ award by the Forestry Authority for my multi-objective management at Stourhead (Western) Estate.
