Happiness tips, vol 2, part 1. Want to feel the joy? Learn to feel.

 

It’s all about feeling.

Laughter yoga helps us feel. Laughter yoga helps us feel happier, even when it hurts.

Sometimes, though, there is an expectation that laughter yoga will make us feel happier instantly. After all, the eminent psychologist William James observed ‘We don’t laugh because we’re happy, we’re happy because we laugh.’

Time and again, I have found his observation to be true – with a caution. Sometimes we have uncomfortable feelings we have not acknowledged. Sometimes they need freedom and to be released. This cannot happen without being prepared to feel the uncomfortableness.
Sometimes this hurts.

How does laughter yoga help?

‘Remember to breathe’ is advice we’ve probably all heard numerous times.
In laughter yoga, it becomes ‘remember to laugh’.

Because laughter practices are life-enhancing and energise our zest for life , they generate a cushion to help us through our uncomfortable feelings. They can help us ride any pain associated with our uncomfortable feelings.
After all, a laugh is simply a form of breath.

Like many practices, these are simple but not easy. The knack is to keep going. That’s where the benefits are.

There is a difference between experiencing this in a group or as a personal practice.
When running groups and workshops, we have to be alert and allow people space to experience their own feelings. This involves well-developed group and facilitation skills.

As a personal practice, we have to be alert to any additional resources we need. Whatever additional resources we need, the laughter yoga personal practices help.

So laughter yoga can help provide us with the resources we need to deal with the feelings it reveals.

Simple, but not easy.

Start practicing now?
Breathe in, hold your breath for 3 seconds, smile, and exhale with a good-natured chuckle.
Repeat at least 3 times.

How to be happy.

How to be happy.

After a nls: natural laughter skills session, someone came up to me and said that until his late teenage years he was a grumpy git. One day, he decided to stop being a grumpy git and become pleasant and agreeable so for the rest of his life (and he’s now in his fifties) he did, and he still is. He was great company.

The message is clear: stop trying to be happy. Abandon immediately this modern pursuit of happiness. If you want to be happy, just be happy. Focus your attention on happiness and simply be happy. Here and now, for this moment, just be happy.

Think of happiness as a way of travelling rather than the destination because if you set your destination right, you never arrive, you find you always keep travelling.

If you’re wondering how to maintain this, become an appreciator.

As an appreciator, you look for opportunities to be appreciative, to appreciate as much as possible as often as possible. A subtle process comes into play when you do this because you start living mindfully, ie you start living more and more in the present. You become more aware of the totality of your life experience, not just your thoughts.

Anyone who practices living in the present knows that now is a place of lightness and delight with occasional disturbances. When you’re fully engaging yourself in the now, you free yourself from past regrets and future worries. You connect with your intuition and your inherent creativity & spontaneity, and you liberate your consciousness, your mind, body and spirit.

This is where the magic happens. This is also where happiness is, so take a moment to celebrate.

This is a robust model. We are blessed nowadays because science is providing an endless stream of evidence supporting ancient practices of meditation and mindful awareness. There is increasing research demonstrating how to worry less and become more appreciative and therefore happier. All they require is consistent practice.

So, stop trying to be happy. For this moment, here & now, just be happy.

Be an abundance magnet

I am. I have become one. I have come to realise I experience abundance all the time. I specifically include financial abundance. I never, ever, lack anything. Whenever I need something, it always appears.
Financially, this happens all the time. When I need £$£$ for a break, car, computer, whatever, it always appears. It just does.
When I need loving, support, emotional warmth, all things physical and non-physical, they also just appear.
It’s only taken me all my life to twig this, and the tip I can give you is ‘Service’. When you commit yourself 101% to ‘Service’, you’re entering a contract with the Universe, and happily, the Universe never breaks contracts.
The knack in this tip is getting out of the way, and for that all you need do is practice. If these words resonate with you, just keep practicing. I do every day.
